Installation¶

To install MarkItDown, use pip:

pip install 'markitdown[all]'

Alternatively, you can install it from the source:

git clone git@github.com:microsoft/markitdown.git
cd markitdown
pip install -e 'packages/markitdown[all]'

Tip

Not every optional dependency is required for every use case. See Optional Dependencies to install only what you need.

Once installed, head to Usage → Command Line or Usage → Python API to start converting files.
